9-slice fundamentals

Resize panels while protecting corners and borders.

Nine regions

Four insets divide an image into corners, edges, and a center. Corners retain their detail while other regions stretch or repeat. Keep decorative detail inside the protected borders.

Set up a panel

Open an image in Slice Studio. Set top, right, bottom, and left insets with guides or numeric controls, then preview wider and taller sizes. Automatic detection is a starting point; check its cuts against the artwork.

Compose placements

Use a nine-slice placement to resize with slice settings. Compose offers placement-specific inset controls. An ordinary image placement scales the whole bitmap, so check the layer type when corners stretch.
