Key concepts

Understand projects, pages, screens, assets, and styles.

Projects and assets

Projects organize related work and library assets. Image placements refer to source assets; resizing a placement does not create a new source image. Keep referenced assets available when saving and exporting screens.

Pages, screens, and layers

A Compose document can contain multiple pages and screen artboards. Screens have their own layer hierarchies, and pages can also contain free canvas layers. Groups organize children, frames define containers, and components support reusable instances.

Saving and styles

Compose keeps local workspace state and synchronizes cloud-backed projects. Local saving and complete cloud synchronization are separate states. Document styles are shared across that document’s screens; project identity provides visual guidance for creation workflows.
